577 Grande Prairie Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron (RCACS) is based in the City of Grande Prairie, Alberta.
Established in 1953, our squadron actively participates in a wide range of community events, partnerships, and celebrations. Our cadets come from across the Peace Region, including Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie, Sexsmith, Beaverlodge, Spirit River, and many other surrounding communities.
Our mandatory training includes weekly parade nights filled with engaging lessons, military drill, and structured activities. In addition to our core program, we regularly offer exciting extras such as tours of local RCMP detachments, fire halls, and other community services.
We also welcome guest speakers who deliver live demonstrations and presentations, giving cadets firsthand insight into various careers and life skills.
Twice a year, we conduct Field Training Exercises (FTXs), where cadets develop survival skills, leadership, and teamwork in outdoor environments.
And that’s just the beginning—these activities are only a glimpse of the fun and rewarding experiences we offer throughout the year!

Endurance meets precision.
Biathlon combines the physical challenge of cross-country skiing with the focus and control of marksmanship—making it one of the most demanding and rewarding sports in the world.
Our cadet biathlon team trains hard and competes at local and provincial levels, with opportunities to advance to national competitions. It’s a test of strength, skill, and mental toughness—perfect for cadets looking to push their limits and represent the squadron with pride.
Have you ever seen a group move with flawless precision and unity? That’s military drill—and it’s exactly what our Drill Team strives to achieve.
As a tri-service team, we bring together cadets from Air, Army, and Sea Cadet elements, working as one to master timing, coordination, and discipline. It’s all about teamwork, sharp movements, and representing our squadron with pride and professionalism.
Safety. Focus. Precision.
Our squadron’s Marksmanship Program teaches cadets the fundamentals of firearm safety and marksmanship using the Daisy 853C Air Rifle. In a safe and supportive environment, cadets learn proper handling, aiming techniques, and disciplined shooting skills.
Whether training for personal improvement or preparing for competitive events, this program builds focus, patience, and confidence—all while emphasizing sportsmanship and responsibility.
Music is a major part of the cadet experience, welcoming both beginners and seasoned musicians alike.
Our Band Program offers cadets the chance to develop their musical skills, perform at community events, and build teamwork and discipline through practice and performance. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or looking to refine your talents, there’s a place for you here.
“On the Wings of Discipline” is more than just our squadron motto—it reflects our strong focus on aviation.
At 577, cadets have the opportunity to work toward earning their Transport Canada–certified Glider or Power Pilot License. Our Ground School program provides the foundational knowledge required for these flight training opportunities and is a mandatory prerequisite for applying to the Glider Pilot and Power Pilot Training Courses.
Whether you’re dreaming of soaring through the skies or just curious about aviation, Ground School is where the journey begins.
Could you survive in the wild with just the basics? Our Aircrew Survival program teaches cadets essential wilderness skills designed for real-world situations—just like those faced by downed aircrew.
Cadets learn how to build shelters, start and maintain different types of fires, administer basic First Aid, and use ground-to-air signals to attract rescue. It’s hands-on, challenging, and packed with practical skills that build confidence, resilience, and teamwork.
