Announcements: Week of Jan 11, 2021

This Week:

  • Regular Virtual training Jan 18 & 19, 2021 at 1830hrs -2100hrs
  • Survivair is starting its virtual training again on Thursdays from 1800-2000hrs on the Discord server. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. For more information see the Surviviar Discord chat.
  • Reminder about the optional Spelunking Presentation on Wednesday Jan 13, 2021 at 1845hrs, for more info and the join link please see the Spelunking specific announcement that has been put out already.
  • Brazo Zulu to the seniors that did their Warrant Officer Review boards this past Tuesday, you all did fantastic!
  • Just like this week more prize and reward draws will be happening again, so if you want to get cool things like the survival knives and flashlights like our winners this week make sure you attend the training nights as its the only way to win!
  • The first week of February we will be doing a virtual fitness night/ Fitness Assessment, keep it in your mind to try and participate so finding a good spot to get up and move a bit and get active. More info will be sent out closer to the date.
  • Parents we will be putting out a short survey for you in the coming weeks to try and get your feedback on a few topics as well as get you more engaged in our virtual world. Your feedback on this will be important for us and is to the benefit to us as staff, you and your cadets.

As always the staff of 577 appreciate your involvement and are working tirelessly to try and create better activities and training for you during this time. Thank you for sticking with it!!

Wednesday’s (optional) Spelunking Webinar

About the Presenter:

Captain Christian Stenner, MStJ, CD, FRCGS         

Royal Canadian Geographical Society

Christian Stenner has been a cave explorer for over fifteen years and during that time has contributed to exploration projects as a leader of the Bisaro Caves project – the deepest cave in Canada, and the exploration of the world’s largest network of volcanic steam caves.  He is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and a Fellow of the Explorers Club, the society dedicated to human exploration of land, sea, air, and space. 

Journey into the unknown

Caves are one of the last unexplored frontiers on our planet.  In this presentation you will hear about the exploration of Canada’s longest, deepest, and most decorated caves.  Hear about the connection the deepest cave in Canada has to Canada’s military.  See photographs of amazing underworlds that have been rarely seen by humans.  And learn about the amazing discoveries that can be made by people with perseverance and teamwork in these harsh environments.

 

The webinar is completely optional and will begin at 1845hrs on Wednesday Jan 13, 2021, please sign on the WebEx call at least 10 minutes earlier to ensure everyone is on and the presentation can begin at 1845hrs. The link for this is located below. If you have any questions please ask.

Announcements: Week of Jan 4, 2021

Thank you all who joined us for our virtual change of command and age out ceremony, the videos for those will be posted to our Facebook page and are on the squadron Youtube Channel.

This week we have a couple of announcements;

  • We would like to welcome back Lt Nasedkin to 577! Lt Nasedkin is a former cadet and staff with 577 and he is returning to us full time, and will be joining the training department.
  • We will be adding a prize program to our training nights, more details will be announced soon.
  • Next Wednesday Jan 13th, 2021 at 1845hrs there is an optional presentation being done for the Grande Prairie cadet community by Christian Stenner who is a Spelunker (Also known as Cave exploration) it is about an hour long presentation and everyone is welcome to attend. The presentation will be through WebEx and a join link will be posted closer to the date.
  • Seniors doing warrant boards they will be next Tuesday, if you haven’t been in contact with Lt Nasedkin about your boards yet please let us know.

We will see you all next week at our usual times. We appreciate your committed engagement through these times and hope to see you in-person soon.

Training Resumes

Good morning 577!!

We hope you had a great holiday break and new years. With the start of 2021 our virtual training begins again starting today and tomorrow evening at the usual times of 1830hrs on the discord server. There is a lot of things happening this week on our training nights including announcements and our Change of Command Ceremony from Capt Hartman to Capt Lynch.

We ask that everyone come and attend the ceremony and parents are more than welcome to join as well.

Also look out for a few teasers of things that are coming to the squadron in the near future! They won’t be obvious so keep vigilant!
