Announcements: Week of Oct 18

this week:

  • NO Survivair, Band or Drill this week
  • Thursday Oct 20, 2022 – Groundschool 1900-2100hrs at D-Coy Armouries in training rooms 3 & 4
  • Saturday Oct 22, 2022 – Biathlon Practice 1000-1200hrs at D-Coy Armouries. Again be prepared for outdoor weather and running
  • Monday Oct 24, 2022 – Marksmanship 1800-2000hrs at D-Coy Armouries. All cadets signed up are to attend, we will not be shooting yet but will be going through rifle and range safety. The following weeks we will split cadets up to specific weeks to ensure adequate time for everyone to shoot. 
  • Tuesday Oct 25, 2022 – Halloween event for training 1830-2130hrs. D-Coy Armouries, no uniforms instead wear a Halloween costume or appropriate attire. Costumes must be appropriate for cadets and no fake or real weapons are allowed. As well cadets should bring some of the following. Alpha Flight is to bring pop, Bravo Flight is to bring chips, and Charlie Flight is to bring Candy. NO nut products.

General announcements:

  • If you are reporting an absence please text the squadron number at 780-538-3610, it is easier for the administration team to manage those messages as the phone is not actively monitored throughout the week. You may still call the number and leave a message however, but these are the only accepted methods to excuse an absence.
  • If you are a parent who it was mentioned that your cadet would need extra medical forms they are ready for you and need to be completed ASAP. If you are unsure if your cadets has more forms please email the Squadron Administration officer at 577air@cadets.ca
  • If you are a parent interested in becoming a screened volunteer for events like bottle drives and fundraisers please reach out to the squadron email to get that process started.
  • Please links to our Public Facebook page and Private Group (Group is for current squadron cadets and parents only). We use these groups to share photos and other stuff like that. Official announcements and stuff are still made to this website first and foremost.

Announcements: Week of Oct 11, 2022

this week:

  • Thursday Oct 13, 2022
    • Survivair 1830-2100hrs @ D-Coy Armouries, please dress to go outside for some of the activities.
    • Ground School –

      For the 2022-23 training year there will be two concurrent optional ground schools running. Both will occur Thursdays from 1900-2100hrs at the D-Coy Armouries. Sessions will run from 13 Oct through mid Jan. Uniforms are not required.

      Those who are or will be registered in Fortress for GPTC/PPTC (summer of 2023) will have a classroom to work on the Online Ground School (OGS) and access to volunteer pilots to answer questions or explain concepts. Note the deadline this year for Fortress registration is 15 Oct. To allow Sqn staff time to register a cadet in Fortress, the cadet must complete the Ground School Interest/Signup well before 15 Oct. Without a Fortress registration there is no option to apply for GPTC/PPTC occurring in 2023.

      Those not old enough to apply for summer 2023 will be in a separate classroom learning flying topics in an instructor led class with a volunteer pilot. This class in open to Level 3 and above, or 14 years of age and older.

  • Saturday Oct 15, 2022 – Biathlon Practice 1000-1200hrs meeting at D-Coy Armouries (outside). Please dress for the weather outside and bring a water bottle, we will be doing dryland fitness training for the morning.
  • Sunday Oct 16, 2022
    • Drill Team Practice – 1300-1500hrs at D-Coy Armouries
    • Band Rehearsal – 1500-1700hrs at D-Coy Armouries
  • Tuesday Oct 18, 2022 – Wings Parade – 1830-2130hrs at D-Coy Armouries formal parade for promotions, awards, presenting pilots wings and more. This is within our regular training time. Parents are encouraged to attend to watch. The dress for the evening will be C1. Orders of Dress Reference  If your cadet does not a dress uniform they can wear their FTU’s FTU Order of Dress

This Week:

  • Thursday Oct 6, 2022 – Survivair 1830-2100hrs at D-Coy Armouries. All cadets are welcome to attend, you do not need to sign up.
  • NO Band, Drill, or Biathlon this weekend for Thanksgiving.
  • Tuesday Oct 11, 2022 – Regular Training 1830-2130hrs at D-Coy Armouries. Dress for the evening will FTU’s FTU Order of Dress  (yes its army cadet but just change the army stuff to air)

  • Oct 18, 2022 – Annual Wings Parade, promotions, awards, and celebration
  • Extracurricular activities are continuing to start up. Signups for the following are already begun and ready for cadet interest. Drill and Band, already started Sundays 1-3 and 3-5 respectively. Marksmanship tryouts will begin in October signups for it are posted in the D-Coy. Biathlon is start very quickly on Oct, sign up for that is also up in the D-Coy (zone competition is Oct 29th).

this week:

  • Saturday Oct 1, 2022: Field Training Exercise First Day – Please see the attached letter describing the details of the exercise. Cadets will be at Pineridge Adventure Camp at 0800hrs, and be picked up at 1600hrs. Senior Cadets are to be there for 0700hrs
  • Sunday Oct 2, 2022: Field Training Exercise Second Day – Please see the attached letter describing the details of the exercise. Cadets will be at Pineridge Adventure Camp at 0800hrs, and be picked up at 1600hrs. Senior cadets are to be there for 0730hrs
  • FTX Letter – Fall 2022  Signup here so we can get a number of attending cadets 
  • No Drill or Band this week due to FTX
  • Tuesday Oct 4, 2022: Meet and Greet Potluck, open to all cades and IMMEDIATE family members. Serving sizes should be enough for approx 12 people. We ask that the following last names bring:
    • A to H: Desserts
    • I to R: Mains
    • S to Z: Sides and salads
    • As well please bring your own serving utensils and mark them as your own.
  • As well on Oct 4 there will be a Parent meeting open to all parents held at the DCoy starting at 645pm, changes within the board to discuss and an opening for Treasurer. (this is the same time as the potluck so you can eat while attending too!).
